Christi and the heart of the farm
Die Hekelpennetjie grew out of Christi Tredoux’s passion for honest, unhurried handwork on Plaas Nuwejaarskraal near Prieska in the Northern Cape. In a world crowded with rushed, mass-produced store-bought goods, Christi wanted to create something meaningfully different: soft crochet companions for little ones and warm, tactile home pieces that feel as though they were made especially for the people you love. When a parent or grandparent opens a parcel from the farm, you can immediately feel the quiet care, time, and pride stitched into every detail.
The craft in every stitch: handmade stays handmade
Every teddy, pillow, sheep rug, basket, and beanie is hand-crocheted by Christi herself using thoughtfully selected soft yarn, breathable cotton, sturdy braid wool, and cosy sheep’s wool. There are no shortcuts and no assembly lines — every stitch and finish is worked by hand so each piece holds its shape beautifully and feels gentle in little hands. For our online shop, we curated calm, timeless neutral shades designed to blend effortlessly into any nursery or living space. And our founding promise will never change: even as Die Hekelpennetjie grows, every piece stays genuinely handmade with love and creativity.

Whether you are choosing a keepsake baby shower gift that will be hugged for years or bringing a touch of handmade warmth into your own home, you are buying directly from the maker. Select items are held ready to ship in small batches, while others are freshly crocheted to order just for you. Because we dispatch from the farm, parcels go out every two weeks: your total delivery time is the making time plus our fortnightly dispatch cycle plus courier transit (to a PUDO locker or straight to your door anywhere in South Africa, with free delivery from R1 000).
